Queer As Folk (U.S Version)

A couple of weeks ago Aaron and I were talking and he asked me if I had seen the British version of Queer As Folk. I hadn’t, I hadn’t even seen the American version. Aaron went on to tell me how much he liked it. I asked him why and he told me at the time he thought it was an honest version of gay life. Not in the middle of watching any shows I suggested we try the American version. The he only thing I like better than a good show is one with 3,4 or 5 seasons. We have finished season 1 and are both enjoying it.

I’m sure any good gay has heard of the show, but incase you have not a brief synopsis. The series follows the lives of 5 good friends living in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. I can't say if it was a real depiction of Pittsburgh, but if it was I sure wish I had spent some time there, especially at Babylon the go to gay club in the show. It was fun to watch a show that centered itself around the gay characters, it does not happen very often. I found myself rooting for my favorite characters and am sure all of us wish we had a little more of Brian Kinney in us,

The show hits on many issues that are still relevant today in the gay world. Sex, HIV, older/younger, drugs, self acceptance and much more. I loves the fact that it portrayed gays as being able to live well rounded lifes or at least as well rounded as our straight counterparts. If you haven’t watched it, give it a shot. I'm looking forward to Season 2.
